February Work and Games 2015

This month has been a flurry of activity! There was a jump in mathematical work, especially with the cubing material which is the beginning of understanding algebraic formulas. The seniors also made over two hundred Valentine's Day chocolate pops for the HRIMS community to raise funds for their senior trip. Many lower and upper elementary students worked together in planning timelines for history and planning outings to various places in our greater community. What a pleasant and happy February!

Two students building cubes of numbers in preparation to learning the algebraic terms.

Seniors making chocolate pops to fill orders for Valentine's Day.

A lower and upper elementary pair making a timeline of the Civil War.

A student making the layers of the earth: inner core, outer core, mantel, and crust.

Two students preparing to make a timeline of important American women.

A little break from work with chess and snack.

Art lesson on drawing faces.

She just made the binomial equation of thirteen cubed.

Some of our students prepared plantings for our spring edible garden.

More cubing work. Both cubes reflect a five cube, then a fifteen cube.

Some lower elementary students were proud to show upper elementary students multiplication into the quadrillions.

Snow days at school are so much fun!

The students love to give snow people hugs!

Could this be an ice sculpture eventually?

Building a fort together.

King of the HRIMS mountain.

Geometric design with our triangles allows us to play a game of naming angles and types of triangles. Plus, it is creative and beautiful.

Olaf?
We had a professional writer come and give us help with our fiction and non-fiction writing. She was fantastic and gave the students creative writing journals.
More chocolate pops! One senior said that he would never want to be a baker but appreciated all the support from our HRIMS families in the fundraiser.
Scrabble game helps the students expand their vocabulary and spelling words.

Breaking apart sentences with our materials help the students learn about adverbial clauses, attributives, and basic functions of parts of speech in sentences.

History question charts help the students stay focused on thesis statements and topics for their historical research.
