Our Trip To Richmond February 2013

Statue of Thomas Jefferson with his plans for the Capitol Building

The restored House of Delegates from the 18th Century

The restored Senate Chambers from the 18th century. The pictures are of Captain John Smith and Pocahontas.

A Copy of the Declaration of Independence with 7 Virginia signatures.

A portrait of an older Thomas Jefferson.

The statue of George Washington.

The State Senate

We were invited to come down to the Senate Floor and see the desks.

A 14 year old page tells us about his experiences working with the Senators.

The mace in front of the speaker means the House of Delegates is in session.

Our trip to Richmond to tour the Capitol Building and attend a brief session of both the Houses of the General Assembly was a success! We enjoyed learning the history of our Capitol and saw many wonderful statues and paintings. The General Assembly took a "recess" after a break in the Senate, so we really didn't see any action there. In the House of Delegates we saw four or five bills passed into law. We then went to Belle Isle to eat our lunch before returning to school.
